How bumpin’ your social life is is probably not what you think of when you’re considering the state of your health. However, social health is not a measure of popularity, or how many “friends” one has, but instead focuses on the ways in which we create and nurture positive interpersonal relationships.
Having these healthy relationships and connections allow us to feel comfortable, happy, and supported in our day-to-day lives. While personal relationships are incredibly complex, healthy relationships should include kindness, respect, clear communications, empathy, authenticity, and personal boundaries. Therefore, we should focus on the quality of our personal connections, rather than the quantity.
It is also important to note that social wellbeing is strongly related to and often influences our emotional health, and our ability to cope with difficult situations.
